Sandrine Gruda was voted the top female player award for FIBA for the first time ever. Gruda, the 6'3 power forward and center from France helped lead the French to the Gold Medal in the Eurobasket 2009 Championships. In Lativa, Gruda averaged 15 points, almost 8 rebounds per game. 

Gruda won the votes over former Female Player of Year recipients such as: Anete Jekabsone-Zogota, Maria Stepanova and Evanthia Maltsi.
