Germany was the second team today, which qualified for the semi-final after a comfortable victory against England (50-40). Svenja Brunckhorst top-scored with 16 points and also took 6 boards and put 7- of -10 shootings from the field.
England quickly got into their stride keeping it simple and scored the first six points. A tactical German timeout broke the English rhythm. Germany took over and scored the next 11 points including a 3-pointer by Jenny Menz. The German run was broken by a solo coast to coast by Rebecca Brough.
Points were becoming more difficult to come by as both stepped up in defence with Germany holding the advantage (22-12) after 5 points by Svenja Brunckhorst. Germany held on to their advantage at the interval.
England more aggressive slowly crawled the score back (32-26), then a lapse in concentration made Germany restore their advantage to (42-30) and paced themselves to victory (50-40) with dominance on the boards (38-21) and 2- from –9 beyond the arc compared to England’s 0- of -12.
After the match Svenja Brunckhorst said that “it was a difficult beginning for us, but once we got into our stride and did simple things, then our game came together. Overall it was a good team performance as that is our strength."
For Germany not to qualify the Netherlands must win by 10 points and Israel beat Ireland
