Beijing Olympics Womens Qualifying Tournament Lottery In Madrid

Monday, January 14th the lottery for the Beijing Olympic Qualifying Womens Basketball Tournament will be held in Madrid at 1230pm. The tournament will be held in Madrid during June 9-15 2008 and five of 12 top teams will have the chance to participate in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The countries that will be playing in the tournament are:

Spain, Belarus, Lithuanina, Czech Republic, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Senegal, Angola, Fiji Island, Japan and Taiwan


In the lottery, the 12 selections will be divided into four groups with three teams per group. During Monday’s draw, the above-mentioned 12 national teams will be divided into four groups of three teams each. Each team will play all the other teams in its own group. The teams placed 1st and 2nd in each group will advance to the Quarter-Finals. The four winners of the Quarter-Finals will qualify for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, while the four losers will play in the Semi-Finals and Finals for the fifth and final remaining Olympic spot.
