LATVIA 82 – ANGOLA 26 Latvia had no mercy and crushed Angola who never was a contendent. Latvia showed their balanced game and a good defense. They began scoring a 6-0 run in the first 1:30 of the game, after then they had a 1:30 minute stretch in which they were scoreless, scoring then Angola their first two points via Nassecela Mauricio, 6-2, and begin trading baskets.
Ainars Zvirgzindis’ team decided then to kill the game. They made a 17-0 run abridging the last 3:47 in the first and the early 1:40 in the second to make it 30-9 and the game finished. Angola scored just five points in the quarter to make it 30-14 with 5:18 for the break. Latvia’s defense left not much open views for Angola and they made a final 9-0 run in the second to reach the interval 39-14 in front.
After the break Latvia didn’t relax and they did nothing more than pulling their advantage despite Angola’s hard game which turned into injuring Latvia’s Ieva Tare who has a sprained elbow and is not clear that can play the Olympic Games. Zvirgzdins moved all the bench and the team kept increasing the lead ‘til the final 82-26
Anete Jekabsone Zogota scored 20 points and grabbed 6 boards. Zane Tamane had 13 pts and 8 boards, Ieva Kublina 11 pts and 8 boards and Elina Babkina 11 points.
In Angola Jaquelina Francisco scored 12 points.
