image The USA National Women's Basketball Team displayed a tremendous game when they defeated the WNBA All Star Selection, 99-72, in the 2010 All Star Game, Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

Sylvia Fowles dominated the WNBA All Stars scoring a game-high 23 points, 13 of it coming in the third quarter. Fowles also collected eight rebounds and converted 9 of her 11 field goal attempts.

"Syl did a great job," U.S. and Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird said. "She's such a dominant player, you saw it. She can get every rebound if she wants. She can score 20 points a night if she wants. It's a matter if she wants to that night. That's what we're trying to do, that's what coach Auriemma is trying to do, trying to get her to be like that every game."

The Chicago Sky center bagged the Most Valuable Player trophy plum in this year's All Star Game, which also featured six University of Connecticut former and current players. The USA National Team was handled by University of Connecticut Head Coach Geno Auriemma, who will be on the helm until the 2012 London Olympics.

"They're on this team for a reason. They're great players. ... They play well together. They have that chemistry. They know what they want and they know how to win. Just to be a part of that crew, it makes you feel good." Sylvia Fowles said.

Swin Cash and Candice Dupree had 13 points apiece while Angel McCoughtry added 11 points for the National Team.

Uconn's Maya Moore, who became the first college player to appear in a WNBA All Star Game, scored 12 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action for the USA Squad.

"I think this is a good little preview for her," Bird said. "Pretty soon she's going to be in the WNBA. If anything, it gives you an idea to see what it's like, being on the court, kind of getting used to it."

Katie Douglas led the WNBA squad in scoring, 15 points, and Penny Taylor contributed 12 points.

"Obviously we played against the best team in the world today," All-Stars coach Brian Agler said. "The game got away from us there a couple of times. ... We did our mission of getting out of here with no injuries, get these players back to their teams."
