image The Phoenix Mercury broke the 116 points single-game record of a team in scoring when they defeated the Tulsa Shock, 123-91, Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Diana Taurasi led the Mercury's surge scoring 26 points and five assists, while Candice Dupree added 23 points and five rebounds for the defending WNBA Champions.

"Records are nice, but as long as you win the game. I think we are happier that we got to play really good basketball for long stretches. But records are nice too." Taurasi said.

Ketia Swanner had 17 points and six assists while Tangela Smith contributed 13 points for the Mercury, which also set a record for scoring 67 points in the first half.

The Mercury exploded in the entire game tallying 59% from the field and was 9-of-16 from the three-point region. They also outrebounded the Shock, 40-33, and was 18-for-18 from the foul line.

"I think we did a good job on the boards defensively. We did a good job of stopping things they did really well against us in Phoenix. We concentrated on that and then that got the running game going for us, a little bit." Taurasi said.

Kara Braxton tallied 18 points for the Shock which tasted their third-straight, 18th overall, defeat to stay at the bottom of the field.

"There is no question that when you look at the ballclub, and they're trying with every ounce of energy they got left, it's just a disaster when you're watching and you can't do nothing to stop it," Shock coach Nolan Richardson said.
