image The Phoenix Mercury set a new single-game scoring record a team, breaking their 123-point record last week, when they defeated the Minnesota Lynx, 127-124, Sunday in Minneapolis.

Diana Taurasi led the Mercury attack when she scored 11 of her 31-point total in the second overtime, giving her team a well-deserved victory in the highest scoring match in WNBA history.

The six-year WNBA veteran Taurasi also six points and six assists, but she struggled from the field before erupting in the second overtime. The WNBA leading scorer only converted eight of her 23 attempts from the field but she was perfect from the line (14-of-14).

"I got looks earlier and they weren't going down. I just stayed with it." Taurasi said.

"We pride ourselves on making free throws; we've led the league the last couple of years. They are free points. When you can capitalize on them it helps in games when you're not necessarily shooting the ball well. It's something as simple as that that can change the outcome." she added.

Candice Dupree also had an outstanding game, tallying 32 points and 16 rebounds, while Dewanna Bonner and Penny Taylor contributed 20 points apiece for the Mercury, which rallied from a 14-point deficit to force two extra periods.

"We have a lot of veterans on this team," Dupree said. "They know how to stay composed and fight through how many ever overtimes we need to get the win."

Seimone Augustus had a season-high 36 points but it was not enough to propel his team to victory. The Lynx has dropped their fifth in six games and their 14th overall, but they still have the third spot in the Western Conference.

The game broke the highest scoring game in WNBA history when they scored a combined 251 points, breaking the 221-point output set by the Phoenix-Houston match, 111-110, in 2006.
