The New York Liberty recorded a franchise-best ten-straight win when they dismantled the Tulsa Shock, 95-85. at the Madison Square Garden in New York.Nicole Powell had a great night as she scored 20 points, while Cappie Pondexter chipped in 15 points and had five rebounds and five assists for the Liberty, which are now tied with Indiana on the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
"[Anne} Donovan told us that she had been telling the media for the last two days that we wouldn't take this team lightly, so we had to come out in the second half and prove it to her," said Pondexter about their coach who was disappointed by their poor performance in the first half.
"We did a much better job in the second half of containing penetration and not giving them easy shots." she added.
Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 15 points; Leilani Mitchell had 14 points and eight assists, while Plenette Pierson tallied 12 points and eight rebounds for New York.
Liberty Head Coach Anne Donovan expressed his joy over their current streak. The Liberty has now won 14 of their last 16 games since the All-Star Break.
"I thought we would come out really focused and keep our energy," Donovan said.
"We just didn't come in as aggressive. The game wasn't as big maybe as the Indiana game on Tuesday was or the emotion behind the Phoenix game last Saturday, so it was a little bit of a letdown tonight but the good thing was that we still came out on the winning end."
Shanna Crossley finished the game with 21 points and Scholanda Robinson added 16 for the Tulsa Shock, which remained at the bottom of the pack with their 5-28 record.
"We're not a very good shooting team," Tulsa coach Nolan Richardson said. "You look at them and they have people standing out there busting 3s from 30 feet out."
