The Los Angeles Sparks proved that they are dead serious in making a huge turn around next WNBA Season after naming Carol Ross as their new head coach.Sparks Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler, whose team received a huge break after securing the top pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft, announced the development and expressed his excitement with the current state of their team.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Carol Ross to our Sparks basketball family,” Toler said. “Carol is a proven winner with an incredible track record at both the collegiate and pro levels. She has groomed many women for great WNBA careers. We’re confident Carol is the ideal coach to lead the Sparks to our next Championship.”
Ross, who has 25 years of coaching in her track record, spent the last three WNBA season as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Dream and was very instrumental in the huge turnaround of the team, who were finalist in 2010 and 2011 WNBA season.
The veteran coach, who also enjoyed tremendous success in her 16-year stint as a Division 1 head coach, is thrilled with the news and she is looking forward to coaching a talented squad, where he will be reuniting with her former Florida player DeLisha Milton-Jones.
“I am very excited about the opportunity Penny Toler and the Sparks’ organization have entrusted to me. I look forward to the responsibility of guiding these elite WNBA athletes,” Ross said. “With the talent and experience of players such as Candace Parker, DeLisha Milton-Jones and others, the Sparks are a team with Championship aspirations.”
Sparks superstar Candace Parker was also delighted with her team’s move, saying that with Ross’ leadership and motivation, they will be in good contention and will be one of the title contenders next season.
