The first game matched Joventut Mariana and Estudiantes and saw an outstanding performance from Soller’s guard Esther Morillo, who lead the team to victory nevertheless she had seen her minutes strictly trimmed this season but when the moment of truth came she proved she can be a real go to player. She had 17 points, 4 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks, turning the ball just once.
The excellent guard beat the buzzer at the end of the third with a three pointer that put her team in front for the first time, 57-56, in the game and then kept on leading the team defensively and offensively to claim the victory. Soller team worked hard in the last ten minutes to shut off an Estudiantes offense that couldn’t find a way to score consistently so they could take advantage of that in the offense, reaching the highest lead at the score with 74-67 and 1:15 remaining while all the attempts to win the game that were made by Madrid’s side were futile
Until the last quarter Estudiantes had lead the game, keeping their noses in front during three quarters, with a good defensive display that provided good offensive choices for Nacho García’s team which reached their highest lead at 25-15 after a 6-0 run in the second. Then Sóller reacted and made a 6-0 run that trimmed the difference to one point, 25-24 with 4:35 remaining for the halftime which they reached 36-33 for Estudiantes.
After the break Estudiantes maintained its dominance of the game and got a 7-point lead (40-33) two minutes into the third but then appeared Esther Morillo. She cut Soller’s scoring drought with a trey (40-36) and pushed her team onwards to make them win the game.
Saray Ruíz had 14 points and 12 boards, Nieves Llamas had 13 points and Astou Traoré 12. For Estudiantes Sandra Ygueravide scored 19, Charity Egenti had 15 and 8 rebounds, Erika Gómez 9 pts and 10 boards and María Vilouta 17 pts and 12 boards
In the second game of the day Zamora’s team took control of the game since minute one while they were less anxious than the day before against Sóller, based on a powerful inside game with Laura Gimeno and Aitana Cuevas, who made 14 from the 21 points of the team in the first ten minutes, Zamora lead throughout the first ten minutes. However Sant Adrià clawed their way back to finish the cuarter 21-19, leaning on a huge effort from its back court players, Laura Plans and Nuria Vives (10 and 7 pts respectively)
Zamora tried to close out the game in the second. They made a 15-3 run that gave them double digit lead (36-22) in the first 4:30, leaving scoreless Sant Adrià for more than three minutes. Lidia Gesteira and Erika Valek took over the game and moved the scoring effort to the perimeter, scoring 7 and 10 pts respectively. Nevertheless Sant Adrià finally was able to score again and traded baskets with Caja Rural during the last tour minutes of the quarter, reaching halftime four points behind 45-35.
After the break Iván Torinos and his girls came out with a vengeance, showing the good defense that characterised the team throughout the season, leaving Zamora in just two points in the first five minutes of the third and scoring 12 points by themselves to level the game to 47 points, beginning then the basket and lead trading to the end of the period which saw them finish in front for the very first time in the game, 59-56, lead by Cris García, who scored 8 points
Cris García begin the last quarter hitting a trey to pull the lead to 62-56. Georgina Bahi also had a good effort in the lane for the Catalán team. But Zamora wasn’t about letting go the game and fought back. First they switched to a zone defense which made Sant Adrià uncomfortable and then Lidia Gesteira took command of the opperations, well supported by Laura Gimeno to little by little trimm the déficit, leveling again the game at 66 after 5 minutes
Bahi put Sant Adrià back in front with a 2+1 play for the 70-66, but Gesteira and Gimeno pushed their teammates to victory. Carla Agulló put Zamora in front for good by scoring from beyond the arc taking advantage of a room created by a driving from Gesteira, 74-71 with 2:30 remaining. Sant Adrià kept on trying while time was running out but their fortune towards the basket fade away and they had to stop the clock by fouling, a thing that only proved to favour Zamora, which increased its advantage mostly from the line, closing the game 84-74
Lidia Gesteira had 21 pts, 6 boards, store 4 balls, lended 4 assists and only turn the ball over once. Laura Gimeno joined her with 21 pts and 11 rebounds as well as Aitana Cuevas with 11 and 8 boards, Ildiko Szoke (10 pts) and Erika Valek’s 12
In Femení Sant Adrià Cris García had 23 pts, Laura Plans 16, Georgina Bahi 15 and 8 boards and Nuria Vives 11 pts
Bembibre won the a thrilling third game against Girona 69-67 after a fourth quarter which saw the Catalán outfit overcome and loose the game in ten minutes. Rosa Pérez put Girona back in front after scoring back to back baskets to make it 58-54 right after Berta Siñol had leveled the game beating the buzzer of the third but Carles Corominas’ team didn’t kill the game and saw how, point after point, Bea Pacheco’s girl trimmed the difference to finally level the game at 67 with 50 seconds to the end. Girona failed to score in the ensuing possession and Bembigre grab the board but lost it in the middle circle getting Rosa Pérez the ball and calling Girona a timeout, but they failed to score and Berta Siñol fouled Fernanda Do Santos, who previously had leveled the the game at 67 and used the two freebies to seal the victory for Bembibre
Girona put themselves in front in the first quarter with a 8-0 run and taking control of the game after the first ten minutes leading 16-10. In the second quarter action both teams traded baskets and 6 consecutive points from Ana María Moreno to put Girona into double digit lead, 16-28 after 3:30 in the second. Bembibre had a terrific display in shooting from Silvia Gustavo -she made 5 from 5 in threepointers and scored 15 from the 22 points scored by her team in the quarter- and fought back making an 8-0 run to trim the deficit to four points, 24-28 and retained Girona in two points scored in the next four minutes, Celia Macià cut off the drought from the perimeter scoring the 33-26. Silvia Gustavo put Bembibre into one point, 35-34, with shortly a minute to the halftime. Girona pull then the lead, 38-34, but then Bembibre kept the concentration enough to score 5 straight points that put them in front at the break, 39-38
None of the teams could make a difference after the break, the game turned muddy and poorly effective. Bembibre lean into their inside players getting 6 points from Raquel Sánchez de la Campa and Don Piso struggled for that reason, mantaining them in the game, though, and reaching the final of the third evened at the score, 54-5.
Rosa Pérez and Ana María Moreno scored eleven a piece for Girona, adding Ana María Moreno 5 boards. Berta Siñol had 14 pts and 5 boards and Geisa Da Silva 16 and 11 rebounds while for Bembibre Silvia Gustavo had 19 and 6 boards, Fernanda Dos Santos 11 and 9 rebounds and Raquel Sánchez de la Campa 13 y 5 boards
In the last game of the day Pio XII rout Vinarós and ensured their spot in semi finals, 83-64
The game lost all the thrill after the second quarter, while in the early minutes of the first both teams hurried to score without working out the offese. Vinarós gor into three points, 8-5, but Pio XII begin working as a clock scoring a 12-4 run thar geve them a 26-17 lead at the end of the first, with Mar Xantal scoring 11 pts for Compostela’s team and Nuria Ramiro scoring 6 for Vinarós
In the second ten minutes a perfectly oiled Pio XII, which had an awsome night from the perimeter (54% overall in treys), while controlling the paint (54 rebounds for 28 from Vinarós) controlled the game perfectly and increasing point after point their lead, reaching the halftime 50-34 in front. Cristina López scored 6 for Vinarós as Carolina Díaz did for Pío
The two quarters after the break were completely useless, Pío got even better and carried the scoring forward. Ray Santana realizad that his team won’t be able to make a comeback begin keeping his players on bench to have them fresh for tomorrow’s decider against Girona, as well as José Ángel Rivera did the same with Pio’s girls so the game had a luxury audience while Emily Heikes, Nuria Ramiro, Noelia Otero, Lidia Mirchandani, Laura Grande and Mar Xantal sitting on bench waiting for the game to end. The final score was 83-64 in an unusual easy game
Mar Xantal had 21 pts and 7 rebounds, Elisha Turek 12 and 14 boards, Isabel Suárez 11 and 6 and Carolina Díaz 12 pts. For Viaonetti Vinarós Cris López scored 18 pts and Emily Heikes y Nuria Ramiro scored 10 each along with Laura Gil’s 11
