2009 WNBA Playoffs Match Ups

The 2009 WNBA playoff teams have been set as the official regular season ended yesterday. First playoff games will begin on September 16th. Washington and Detroit made a big significant push to make the playoffs when there were five teams battling for 3rd and 4th spot in the standings for the Eastern Conference. While, out in the West, the biggest come back effort by the Los Angeles Sparks maintained their 3rd place position while the San Antonio Stars pushed out the Minnesota links from playoff hopes during the last games. Los Angeles played an important game to keep third place and avoid facing the Phoenix Mercury and possibly sweep.

Later this week, the WNBA will make post season award announcements: MVP, Rookie of the Year,Best Defensive Player, Most Improved Player, Best Sixth Woman and Coach of the Year.
