Marion Jones this week signed with the new WNBA Tulsa Shock franchiseto play this summer. Jones has been scrutinized and incarcerated in the past but late last summer worked hard to get herself in to shape and make a comeback. She has dropped the track shoes for high top basketball shoes.
The WNBA and franchise is happy to have her:
"She made some ill-advised decisions in the past, but everyone deserves a second chance to excel at something they love," Swetoha said. "The city of Tulsa gave a struggling franchise from Detroit a second chance, and I'm confident it will do the same for Marion. We couldn't be happier to have her on board."
Coach Nolan Richardson is also content that Jones will be apart of this team and system:
"Watching her go through drills, I saw a player who's perfect for our system," Richardson said. "The one thing I do know is she can run, and any player on my team who wants to be successful needs to be able to run."
We wish Marion Jones-Thompson a successful comeback and year in the WNBA.
