Two days before the start of their playoff campaign, the Phoenix Mercury gave their stars some sort of a morale-booster after Diana Taurasi and Penny Taylor inked contract extension.
Taurasi and Taylor, who have led the Mercury to a lot of success since being together in 2004, reportedly inked multi-year deals, but the team decided not to disclose the terms of the contract the two stars signed.
“Diana and Penny have been the face of this franchise for eight years and we look forward to that remaining true for years to come,” said Mercury President and General Manager Ann Meyers. “Their loyalty to this franchise and commitment to excellence on the court has taken us to elite status in the WNBA.”
The superstar tandem led the Phoenix Mercury to title runs in 2007 and 2009 and the team is hoping that Taurasi and Taylor will give them another title this season or in the near future.
Both of them were slowed down by injuries during the regular season, but they managed to lift the Mercury, finishing third in the Western Conference race and will be facing defending champions Seattle in the first round of the playoffs that will start on Friday.
