Pokey Chatman Inks Contract Extension with SpartaK

Pokey Chatman received some sort of a morale-booster heading into the EuroLeague Women Final Eight after inking a contract extension with the Sparta&K MR Vidnoje.

Chatman, who has led the team to four EuroLeague Women titles, reportedly ink a one-year deal that will still give her the coaching chores for the Russian powerhouse next season.

“I'm excited to extend my time here at Sparta&K,” Chatman said. “I've had the privilege of coaching some of the best players in the world while enjoying tremendous success, both on the scoreboard, but of equal importance, off the court too.”

Sparta&K star Becky Hammon expressed her excitement after hearing that their coach will still be at the helm next season, giving a lot of praises to the veteran bench tactician.

“In women's basketball, Sparta&K and championships go together and I think Pokey has been at the heart of so many winning seasons,” Hammon said. “Every time we as players go into a game, we feel prepared with schemes and strategies on how to win the game. You feel like you've always got a great chance at winning with her at the helm.”

Team General Manager Steve Costalas explained the reason of extending Chatman’s contract and also revealed that the coach was pursued by other Final Eight teams, but Pokey showed loyalty and commitment.

Chatman and Sparta&K will gun for another final-four slot and another shot at the title when they face Spanish powerhouse Ros Casares in the Quarterfinals that is set to kick off today.
