Brazil Captures Gold at the FIBA Americas Championship

Brazil topped Argentina (71-48) to win the 2009 FIBA America's Championship on their home floor in Brazil. Brazil was strong on both ends of the court and kept Argentina scoreless for 8 minutes between the first and second quarters.
Silvia Gustavo led Brazil with 18 points, Fernanda Neves 13, Alessandra Santos 12 and Adrianinha Pinto 9 points with 8 rebounds. Adrianinha Pinto of Brazil was selected as the MVP of the championship. For Argentina, Carolina Sanchez scored a team high 13 points and Paula Reggiardo chipped in with 11.

Canada won the Bronze medal as they defeated Cuba 59-49 and qualifies for the FIBA 2010 World Championship Games.

China, Korea and Japan qualify for the FIBA World Championship in 2010. China captured gold with win over Korea and Japan received the Bronze medal.
