Spain Opens Eurobasket With Win Over Belarus

Spain started the first game against Belarus with strong defense to get their first win 76-62 in Italy. Sparked by aggressive defense, fast transition basketball and solid defensive rebounding Spain prevailed. Belarus in the first period were limited to shoot from the perimeter because of Spain's defense pressure. Spain did not allow Belarus get to any easy shots under the basket. The inside players from Belarus were a lot taller than of Spain but, Spain managed to maintain defense and solid offense.

The biggest lead Spain held was 22 points early in the third quarter but Belarus closed the third quarter only trailing by 9 points. In the fourth, big three point shooting from guards, Nuria Martínez and Amaya Valdemoro allowed Spain to breath easy and get their first comfortable win in Group D of Eurobasket 2007.
