Group A

Turkey opened with a 13-0 run at the beginning of the third quarter which was enough to see them hold off Israel (70-58) in a loser go home match. Israel looking jaded after their exploits in qualifying during the additional qualification round just did not have the legs or the luck in the end to continue the adventure.

In the other game in group A, Czech republic beat Latvia comprehensively (70-44) in a match that Jan Bobrosky described as his teams best performance so far.

Group B

Belgium were made to work hard in the end (74-71) in overcoming Romania. Trailing by 10 points after 27 minutes, Belgium fired 17 unanswered points over two periods to take what appeared to be a comfortable lead, but a series of 3-pointers by Romania brought things back to a one point game. With 10 second remaining Anne Wauters scored her 20th point of the night leaving Romania a chance to tie the game, the buzzer 3-point attempt failed to connect and with that Romania are out of the contest.

Lithuania beat Germany (71-57) on the back of a 14-4 surge in the last five minutes of the match.

Group C

Russia defeated Greece without Stepanova, Shchegoleva and Rakhmautulina. Evanthia Maltsi scored all her teams points in the first period with 13pts and finished with a game high 22 points.

Group D

Belarus defeated Serbia (79-53) in the result of the 3rd day. Yelena Leuchanka was on form and finished with 14 points , 11 boards, 2 assists and 3 blocks as Belarus finish the first phase in second position.

Croatia leave the tournament after losing (63-52) to Spain. Amaya Valdemoro played agressive offensively and defensive for Spain. Overall their team defense is the key to their fist three victory's.
