Tulsa Shock Scores 2nd Straight Win After Ending Skid

Tulsa Shock seemed to have gain lots of confidence after ending their 20-game losing skid as they hammered out a rare two-game winning streak with an 83-72 upset victory over Connecticut Sun on Monday in Tulsa.

Veteran forward Sheryl Swoopes, who drained the game-winning basket on Sunday, had another brilliant night as she finished with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Ivory Latta added 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting to go with six assists for Tulsa.

“Everyone who played contributed to this win, everyone,” said Swoopes. “To get a home win for our crowd was great. They have supported us throughout the losing streak.”

Tiffany Jackson also had a productive night, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Amber Holt chipped in 10 markers for the Sun, who used a third and fourth quarter onslaught to escape with the win.

Connecticut was in full control, leading by 15 points in the third period, but Tulsa shocked the Sun with a 21-9 run to end the third period and outscore them, 24-13, in the final period to score just their second winning streak since moving to Tulsa last season.

“The first one was sweet and all but I think this one is even better because it came in front of our fans,” said Tulsa interim coach Teresa Edwards. “We're starting to turn the corner. Our confidence is up and we're not going to base our team on what anybody else (opponent) is thinking. We'll do our best.”

Tina Charles led Connecticut with her 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Renee Montgomery finished with 12 points.
