Atlanta Dream Edge Indiana Fever to Solidify Playoff Spot

The defending Eastern Conference champions Atlanta Dream had a slow start this season but they managed to turn things around and are now poise to make the playoffs once again.

The Dream, who started the season with a 3-9 record, solidified their grip on the fourth spot in East standings after escaping with a 92-90 win over conference-leading Indiana Fever on Wednesday in Atlanta.

Sancho played the hero’s role for the Dream after knocking down the dagger, a game-winning jumper with just 0.9 seconds left in the game, helping the Atlanta improve to 16-13, two and a half games ahead of the fifth placer, Chicago Sky.

“We have amazing spirit on this team,” said Dream coach Marynell Meadors. “I'm very proud of them. There were many times when they could have folded up.”

Angel McCoughtry was in her usual explosive form, finishing with a game-high 28 points and seven rebounds, while Lyttle finished with 14 points and 11 boards for the Dream, who were down by five points with two minutes left in the game, but managed to come back and escape with the win.

“This team has a lot of heart,” said McCoughtry. “We showed that again tonight and we've shown it all season. When you have struggles in the beginning, it makes winning so much better.”

Erin Phillips had 21 points, Tamika Catchings added 20 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Fever dropped to 19-10 and has been swept by the Dream in all of their three games this season, giving Atlanta an edge in their potential first-round clash in the playoffs.
